Chayim Aruchim is a project established by Agudath Israel of America in response to many calls for help that were received regarding Jewish end of life issues and questions about Jewish end of life values. The leadership of the Agudah recognized the gravity of this issue and the many difficult challenges involved, including complex halachic questions that could only be addressed by a team of devoted professionals, and created Chayim Aruchim to deal with this pressing need.
Chayim Aruchim is leading the call to get Jews nationwide to sign a Halachic Medical Directive, a document naming a Jewish health care proxy to represent them should they become incapacitated, in order to guarantee the treatment required according to halacha. Chayim Aruchim has become the most sought after authority for Jews who wish to sign a Jewish medical directive or Jewish advance directive that complies with halacha and Jewish values.
In its efforts to find medical solutions for Jewish patients, Chayim Aruchim has established a relationship with Metropolitan Jewish Health Systemís MJHS Hospice and MJHS Palliative Care to help religiously observant patients receive a Jewish hospice experience and Jewish palliative care that is in compliance with Jewish law.
